What Customers Say About Sony DCR-HC62 1MP MiniDV Handycam Camcorder with 25x Optical Zoom:

A long lasting battery life, and the timelapse mode is awesome. This camera has very good video and sound quality.

My older Sony camera (I think a PC-100; it was made in 2000) took much rougher treatment with no problems, and, frankly, still has better picture quality. But about 1/4 of the takes have a horizontal banding, indicating a problem with the tape drive. I've had the DCR-HC62 for a few months. I took it to the Grand Canyon, so yes, it was subjected to some dust.

One for personal film work and the other for time lapse. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R17CBN0JK821ET This camera has great features but I mostly purchased it for work with time lapse. Add filters and creativity you can do a lot with this camera but it is also small enough that it is great for carrying around with you without getting in the way. Night vision is pretty good and with added infrared lights you can get some nice night shots. I posted a video of one of my time lapse videos and have this camera always filming more. The camera works so well I ended up getting two.

Other than that I am very happy with the camera. For some reason it only allows you to transfer video from tape using the I-Link connection. I actually would give it four stars but can't change my original post. The camera does everything that I want. My only quibble is with the software that comes with the camera.

Also, some of the covers over the various inputs and outputs are pretty flimsy and look like they might break down the road. I am someone who judges quality on heft, but I guess that is really not that relavent. The camera does pretty well in relatively low light, and the sound is good too. But for now, everything is fine. Finally, as some of the other reviews mentioned, it does not come with a cable to connect it to Sony's VRD device, which I also bought. It is easy to use, and the touch screen is fine - some reviews said it was too small, but honestly I think it is fine. After agonizing over which camera to buy, I took the plunge and bought this one.

After having the camcorder for about a week and using it a couple of times, I am overall pleased with the purchase. Some might consider it a plus - this camera is super light. I had bought and returned a Sony mini DVD camcorder after finding the results to be pretty poor. On the negative side, it is lighter than I thought it should be. However, the cable is cheap here on Amazon, so you might want to buy one now to have it available. I didn't want to spend the dollars to move up to HD, and people told me that Mini DV was the highest quality image one could obtain short of going to HD.

My goal for this purchase is making movies of the family, not shooting a documentary, and for this purpose I think it is fine.
